Pack Your Connectivity This Summer Cruise Season

As summer cruise season kicks into full gear, many of you are preparing for well-earned vacations—time to unwind, recharge, and explore the world by sea. At WMS, we’re excited to help you make the most of that experience by sharing one important reminder:

Pack your connectivity!

Yes, sunscreen and swimsuits are important—but in today’s world, staying connected can be just as essential. Whether you’re sharing memories with family, checking in at work, banking, or simply navigating your travel plans, being connected at sea can make your journey more enjoyable.

That’s why we’ve launched our “Pack Your Connectivity” campaign. Our goal is simple: to help you plan ahead so you can stay connected without the stress.

What You Need to Know Before You Sail

We’ve put together five simple tips that every cruiser should keep in mind before boarding. These come straight from our experience working with 200+ ships, 25+ cruise lines, and 400+ cellular roaming partners globally:

  1. Plan for connectivity when booking your cruise
Many connectivity options—including cruise day passes from your cellular provider—can be set up before you sail. Your provider won’t bill you for your cruise day pass until you use it onboard. Don’t wait until you’re in international waters, when it will be too late to set up.
  1. Understand Your Data Needs
Think about how you use data services on your device(s).
  • If you’ll just check email and browse the web, cellular connectivity may be enough.
  • If you’re planning to stream movies or engage in social media regularly, ship Wi-Fi is the better choice.
  • If your family is cruising with you, or you will use multiple devices for different applications, a combination of both cellular and Wi-Fi might be the way to go.
  1. Leave Airplane Mode Off
To use cellular services onboard, make sure your phone is not in airplane mode while you’re at sea.
  1. Temporarily Toggle Off Wi-Fi When Using Cellular
This allows your device to properly connect to the cellular network onboard.
  1. Enable International Roaming Before You Leave
This ensures your phone can connect to our cellular network while you’re on your ship.

Staying Connected Has Never Been Easier

Cruise connectivity has come a long way in just the past year. With the addition of 5G capabilities on select ships and new cruise day passes from carriers such as AT&T and Verizon, staying connected is more predictable—and more affordable and seamless—than ever. If your cellular carrier doesn’t offer data on cruise ships—such as T-Mobile—consider using an eSIM service from cellularatsea.com

At WMS, we take pride in powering reliable connectivity, as we have since 2004 when we launched the first cellular service on a cruise ship. Today we’re innovating with next-generation technology, including leveraging all the satellite services, such the latest low Earth orbit (LEO) technology, Starlink, to make sure you’re covered from port to port.

From Our Team to You

We know your cruise is more than a vacation—it’s a meaningful experience. And staying connected, when and how you choose, helps make that experience better.

Thank you for sailing with our partners and trusting WMS to keep you connected. We’re proud to support your journey along the way.
