Wireless Maritime Services Completes Installation onboard Star Cruises and Broadens Its Focus on Asia
Miramar, FL – (March 23, 2012) – Wireless Maritime Services (WMS), the world leader in providing cellular service to the cruise line and ferry industry, today announced the completion of its rollout of wireless services on board Star Cruises, the world’s third largest cruise line and the leading cruise line in Asia. This milestone follows the launch of service onboard the SuperStar Aquarius and SuperStar Virgo in late 2011, and now includes a full deployment of cellular wireless services to guests and crew members on the SuperStar Libra and Star Pisces.
Starting from today, passengers and ship crews on all four of these Star Cruises vessels can stay connected with friends and families while cruising to various destinations in Asia Pacific. The service enables them to make and receive telephone calls, send text messages, access emails and surf the internet at rates similar to international roaming.
Mr. Jim McKenna, Vice President of Customer Support and Product Management for WMS, said, “We are truly delighted to have completed our deployment with Star Cruises and are now providing cellular service to both guests and crew on the SuperStar Virgo, SuperStar Libra, SuperStar Aquarius and Star Pisces. Star Cruises is an award-winning cruise line leader that creates terrific cruise experiences for their guests, and we’re honored to be a part of the communications element of that experience.”
“Building upon our success in North America and Europe, WMS particularly values our relationship with Star Cruises as our partnership represents a significant expansion by WMS into the Asia Pacific region. We have long had a strong advantage with roaming agreements with hundreds of telecommunications carriers around the world—including our agreement with China Mobile, the world’s largest mobile phone operator-- and we are thrilled to be leveraging these resources for the benefit of Star Cruises and all of their passengers throughout Asia.”
On a related note, WMS continues to expand its impressive portfolio of roaming agreements with Asian mobile phone operators, recently launching services with SK Telekom—South Korea’s largest telecom carrier. Currently, an estimated 30,000 Korean passengers take cruises each year, with a dramatic increase expected in the coming years. With the launch of its agreement with SK Telekom, WMS now has 395 roaming agreement in place around the globe covering 147 countries.
